CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Habitat for Humanity builds houses for people who may not otherwise get the opportunity to own a home.
Future homeowners get their hands dirty in the day to day of the housing build, but there are other volunteers on site who donate their ‘sweat equity’ who just want to be a part process of helping future homeowners.
George Stebe is a part of the Red Hat program. Red Hats are trained and vetted crew leaders, whose job is to assist the construction staff as ‘additional hands’ to guide the day-to-day volunteers on the construction site. Stebe started out as a volunteer with his church but enjoyed the experience so much he decided to stay on as a permanent volunteer. Now, he is so experienced that he leads various build groups for the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
For those reasons George Stebe is this week Everyday Hero, and our community partner Southern Bank is also honoring his work by giving him a $300 dollar Visa gift card.
Congratulation’s George!
