CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Connor and Winter Clapsaddle have a lot on their plate: full-time jobs, Connor serves in the Coast Guard and Winter is a clinical trauma specialist. They are parents of a teenage daughter, Bailey and five-year-old, Jaxon. Plus, as Connor explains they're super active in the community.

"We want to be able to take the time and make sure we time manage our time to be able to help others," Connor said.

For example, Connor volunteered at the Good Neighbor Festival at their church, which benefitted families in need. Winter, frequently, is busy at her kids' schools helping with various PTA activities, Connor recently helped create a community cupboard--later filled with food and hygiene items.

Connor also volunteers at his son's school in the group WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) and Winter volunteers with the Surfers Healing for Autism event in Virginia Beach.

"I had to ask, how do they do it?," News 3's Kurt Williams asked. Winter responded with a laugh, Coffee! A lot of coffee."

On calendars and planners and on the master planner, which is chock full of activities, Winter always has a special message of encouragement for each week, like "No matter what happens today, don't quit!"

Winter points out, "We all need it. Everyone needs a push."

What is Winter hoping the takeaway message is for her kids?

"To, you know, always take care of others. To prioritize their time, like, there's always enough time—always. It's just where your priorities are," Winter said.

Their 13-year-old daughter Bailey is already making a difference, joining her church youth group, and volunteering on various projects. She's not afraid of getting her hands dirty.

For all those reasons, News 3 presented Winter and Connor Clapsaddle with an Everyday Hero award, along with a $300 Visa from our community partner Southern Bank.
