The ForKids organization is one of the largest providers of homeless services for families in Virginia. It is a vital and important mission, and they need good people to get the job done.
One of the folks who they consider a “Super Volunteer” is Mary Hecht. She started volunteering with the organization in 2019 organizing the food pantry. They now call it ‘Mary’s Closet’ because she cleans, organizes, and rotates that space as if it was her own kitchen.
Since then, Mary has volunteered more than 1,025 hours at ForKids! From working the thrift store, to holding babies to clients who can focus on programs and finding housing with caseworkers, Mary has touched nearly every area of work ForKids does. These days, you can find her organizing school supplies for ForKids and can distribute hundreds of backpacks.
For those reasons and more Mary Hecht is this week's Everyday Hero, and our partners at Southern Bank rewarded her good works with a $300 dollar gift card that Mary has already earmarked as a donation for the School Supply program at ForKids.
