This week's News 3 Everyday Hero is a living example of "sugar and spice and everything nice."

Sandra Merrill is the CEO and head pastry chef at Sugar Mama's Bake Shoppe in Suffolk.

Aside from their yummy treats, Merrill also shares the sweetness with those going through cancer treatment.

Merrill has been serving the community and customers since the 1990's.

The owner is also known for her generosity, as she partnered with Cynthia Daniels who runs a non-profit called Cupcakes and Chemo.

In 2018, Daniels approached Merrill to partner with her to deliver sweet treats to patients at cancer center locations across Hampton Roads.

"This is more like a ministry for me so the cost of it is nothing if I'm giving back to the community," Merrill said.

So far, Merrill has donated more than 5,000 cupcakes for cancer patients who could use an emotional lift.

If you know anyone who is an everyday hero, you can nominate them here.
