NORFOLK, Va. — Behind every bald head is a powerful story. On Saturday, those within the community gathered together to raise funds for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation's "Head Shaving Fundraiser."

The foundation is celebrating 20 years of hosting this fundraiser. As such, they have remained committed to providing the best research for children diagnosed with cancer.

Sarah Rostock, the co-organizer for the Hampton Roads Raise to Shave A Head Event told News 3 this event is near and dear to her heart. She was diagnosed with cancer in her adolescence.

"I was originally diagnosed when I was 14 with childhood Leukemia," she said. "Then I relapsed when I was 20 and had a Stem Cell transplant when I was 21."

Rostock said she is shaving her head to help find a cure for kids with cancer.

"Currently our treatments cure children with cancer but they also create lifelong chronic illnesses," she said. "So it's really important to continue to fund research in order to make treatments more available and better for our kids."

Nearly a hundred people signed up to have their heads shaved this year, according to organizers, all with the goal of helping to save the lives of kids who are diagnosed with cancer.
