VIRGINIA BEACH. VA. — A program in Virginia Beach works with over 100 employers to find jobs for those with disabilities.
Community Employment Options assists in matching the skills and interests of their prospective employees. They've been operating for over 40 years, assisting thousands of residents.
David Viayra has worked at Surge Trampoline Park near Lynnhaven Mall for three months thanks to this program.
“So I am a court monitor so I’m up there walking around and making sure everyone is safe, no one gets hurt, rules are being followed,” Viayra said. “It's important to me to work so I have a stable income. I can help mom and dad out with expenses.”

Krista Shanafelt, the supervisor for Community Employment Options, emphasizes the importance of finding jobs that are a good match for both their applicants and employers.
“We do situational assessments with our clients so we take them out and let them try a variety of different jobs where we can see them perform on the job, see what their needs are, what their strengths are and help them figure out what they like and want to do,” Shanafelt said.
Businesses like Surge Trampoline Park are delighted to have workers like Viayra, as they say his enthusiasm to work is infectious.

“He’s been a great addition to the team, getting along with the rest of the team. The regulars that come in during toddler time during the week have just absolutely loved him. It’s just been positive energy every time he’s here,” said Jennifer Dozal, the manager who hired Viayra.
“I honestly love seeing the kids when they come in, the bright smiling faces. It brings me joy,” Viayra added.
Community Employment Options, Viayra, and those employers taking part in the program are Positively Hampton Roads.
