NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Grab a beer and support the people serving our country and their families.

On Saturday, 1700 Brewing on Canon Boulevard in Oyster Point released its newest beer: Homefront IPA.

The beer was brewed as part of the national Hops for Heroes campaign; an effort that sees breweries across the country brew their version of 'Homefront' with all proceeds going to nonprofit Soldiers' Angels.

The organization's mission is to provide support and resources to the military and veteran community.

It's 1700's third time participating in the campaign.

“100 percent of the proceeds of the sale of this beer goes to Soldiers' Angels and that helps soldiers’ families that are deployed, spouses, children. Their campaign is great so it just seemed like a great fit for us," said Kevin Mead, who co-founded 1700 Brewing with two other U.S. Air Force veterans nearly three years ago.

Mead says the brewery makes a point to support military organizations throughout the year.

This time, 1700 partnered with another local brewery to create Homefront; Billsburg Brewery in James City County.

Saturday, 1700's release event coincided with its annual Summer Kickoff Party. Billsburg will hold a release event next Saturday, June 8.

News 3 is told 1700 should have the beer on draft and for sale in six-packs for the next two to three weeks.
