YORK COUNTY, Va. - In a male dominated sport, one York County girl is quickly making a name for herself in the world of wrestling.
15-year-old high school freshman Jayden Crotty is a force to be reckoned with on the mat. Jayden recently placed 6th at 3A Boys State. She was the only Tabb High School wrestler to make the podium.
“The boys were like very competitive and very strong, and being a girl, girls are not as strong, but they have more technique,” said Jayden.
Coach John Wright told News 3 when Jayden steps into competition, she's laser focused.
“The thing that makes us most proud is seeing her just flourish," said Wright. "It’s up to each of our individual athletes to actually lace up every day and do the work to perform.”
Jayden also recently placed 4th at Girls State, out of 31 in her bracket.
“She’s in this very unique spot where she is extremely talented, and works extremely hard,” said Wright.
Jayden says she doesn't mind not looking like her usual competitors.
“I like to stand out, and be the only one out there,” said Jayden.
The high school freshman is hoping to get a scholarship for wrestling; she's also preparing for Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota this summer.
