HAMPTON ROADS, Va. — The Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads is once again looking for nominations to showcase military families doing community service in Hampton Roads.

It's for their upcoming Five-Star Military Family Recognition Luncheon. Laura Baxter, Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA, shares what they're looking for.

"Any military family that goes above and beyond in terms of philanthropic and volunteerism in the Hampton Roads community," she says.

Baxter says the goal is to have representation from each branch of the military. "It recognizes the fact that they support us, keep us safe but still feel the commitment to do something that's good in our community. They put their lives on the line to support and to protect my family, your family, our whole community. But then they all feel the need to give back," she says.

The deadline to nominate is family October 15.

"It could be a family member that nominates, it could be a command that nominates—it could be a non-profit, I mean there are so many non-profits that know they have military families that they are volunteering for them," adds Baxter.
