NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Local gospel artists came together to uplift Newport News in song for their Honoring MLK Concert, after the Feeding Five Thousand event left the community on a high note.
Various talents took the stage with original and popular pieces of the gospel genre.
"Well first of all as a public educator, my heart goes out to that teacher, to that principal and the superintendent at this particular school district, and I would hope that people take away that we really need to turn inward and take a look at ourselves through the word of God," Pastor Stephen Boyd, CEO of SP Entertainment.
People filled the seats in each row of the sanctuary of New Beech Grove Baptist church to celebrate the legacy of Doctor Martin Luther King.
The musicians say that music is very important to spread a message of liberty, freedom, love, and healing, especially during hard times.
"Being able to sing these song and these words and to minister to God's people, it means a lot to me. Listen this world is in a lot of trouble, I mean that's just the best way to put it and if we don't do something to reach down and grab hold of our people, they're going to be lost," said gospel performer Bridget Warren.
People also held a service after the concert.
