Hampton Roads Haunts: Places sure to make you scream this Halloween season

Are you looking for somewhere to get scared this Halloween season?

Hampton Roads comes alive with ghouls and goblins during Halloween, from Williamsburg down to Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.

Check out the list below for your next spooky weekend activity!

Spooky Acres Haunted House
Located at MacArthur Mall, this local haunt benefits March of Dimes with an admission of $20. An autopsy room, an electric chair, and walls that may come alive, this haunt is sure to scare your socks off. The haunt is wheelchair accessible, and even offers babysitting for little ones that are too small to go through the scare. They're open every Friday and Saturday in October, and the first Friday and Saturday in November, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays in October from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and October 30 and 31 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Norfolk Haunted Temple
Operating from Thursdays to Sundays the last three weekends in October, this local haunt is in a historic temple in Norfolk. Something is always watching, lurking around corners waiting for you. With themes of Carnevil and Infected, this one is sure to scare even the toughest in your group. Admission is $20 cash at the door, $25 with credit.

Frightmare
Offering both a regular haunt and an "Xtreme" haunt, Frightmare says "Terror never takes a holiday." An adult themed walk through, those entering must be 18 years old or with an adult if underage. If you want a super haunt, sign up for the Xtreme haunt, where you may be kidnapped, dragged and separated from your group. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the first 400 in line will be able to enter. Tickets sell out fast, starting at $15 cash, $20 with card, and an extra $10 if you want the Xtreme experience.

Nightmare Mansion
Though open year round, Nightmare Mansion has been a spooky season staple in Virginia Beach since 1989. Offering a haunted walkthrough with live actors and a separate escape room experience, the attraction says they are intense and recommended for adults only. Walk, run and crawl through narrow hallways and dark corridors to escape your nightmare. Tickets are $14, and in October they're open Monday to Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays 4 p.m. to midnight, and Sundays 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Haunted Hunt Club Farm
Offering more than just a haunted walk through, Hunt Club has something for everyone. A Harvest Fair, market, pumpkin patch, Haunted Hayride and more, everyone in the family can have fun. Walk, or run, through the Village of the Dead, Death Alley and the Forbidden Fields, where something is always waiting for you to turn the corner. Before you leave, make sure to grab a pumpkin from the Giant Pumpkin Patch, or stop by to say hello to the goats at the petting farm. Haunted Hunt Club Farm is open Fridays and Saturdays in October from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in October from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The Unlimited Scream Band starts at $39, with an option to add a Fast Pass.

Ghosts of Thoroughgood Past Tours
Join the Virginia Beach History Museums for the return of "Ghosts of Thoroughgood Past" and take a paranormal tour of the historic Thoroughgood House by candlelight! Keep an eye out for ghostly happenings in the gardens and house, as costumed professional storytellers guide you through the night. Campfires and cider will also be available to warm your spirits! The tours will run every 30 minutes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 19-22 and 26-29. Tickets for adults and children 11+ are $15, $7 for children ages 3 to 10, and free for kids under 2 years old.

Haunting at Greenbrier Farms
Old legends come alive in the fields at Historic Greenbrier Farms, as ghouls chase you around mazes and bamboo forests. If you want to avoid the scare, the farm offers a Fall Festival with a pumpkin patch, corn maze, bounce houses, barnyard animals, and playground. Pick your perfect pumpkin or grab a drink from the Hive Farm Bar and Grill while you check out the beautiful property. Parking is $10 on Saturdays and Sundays, and tickets for the haunt are $30, but $25 if you come in a group.

Hampton Horror Tours will certainly give you some fun and fright

Hampton Horror Tours
The Hampton History Museum has reincarnated the Hampton Horror Tours to bring back the tales of mystery and the macabre to the streets of Hampton! This walking tour leaves from the Hampton History Museum, and includes eerie tales of old Hampton and the coastal area. Take a terrifying, lantern-lit tour of the old St. John's Church graveyard, then walk Queen Street and around Downtown Hampton as a tour guide shares the grisly side of Hampton history. From Oct. 26-30, two tours will be offered per night at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets start at $16. Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens
If you're ready to be scared, Busch Garden's Howl-O-Scream is back! It will feature five newly revamped haunted houses, five scare zones, and of course, coasters at night. The terror runs every weekend until Halloween, and tickets start at $52 online.
