CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Saturday, Feb. 18 marked the grand opening of a Chesapeake gym benefitting kids with special needs or on the autism spectrum.

It's called "We Rock the Spectrum," and it's open to all kids and their families.

Activities range from sensory games to zip lines, trampolines, and toys.

The staff says all equipment is proven to stimulate fun and learning.

"My children are neurotypical and I want people to know that children of abilities and neurotypical children can play together and have a great time. So that's what we hope to bring: a sense of community, a sense of belonging, and a place for children to play without having to say sorry," said Mary Hassell, co-owner of the "We Rock the Spectrum" Kids Gym.

Some parents say this is a great networking opportunity.

"It's nice just having kind of like a community hub. I guess, we kind of see this like that where we can come back, maybe see familiar faces. Other organizations that are in the same vein all kind of congregate, so it also gives us a chance to find those additional resources," said McKenna Kozitzki, mother of Aiden.

Owners say they plan to host events, not only for children, but also for adults on the spectrum.

The gym is located at 211 Providence Road in Suite 3.
