HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - An Elizabeth City mother known as the "Formula Fairy" has taken it into her own hands to make sure Hampton Roads babies are fed during the ongoing formula shortage.

Gina Slayton has driven over 2,000 miles so far, delivering baby formula all over Hampton Roads, using money out of her own pocket for gas and the formula.

"The only reason why I do this is to keep babies fed," Slayton said.

She is a mom of two and said it's now her mission to feed hungry babies. She drives 5-6 hours multiple times a week from Elizabeth City to Hampton Roads. She posts on social media to find parents in need.

“It’s just a blessing that she saw my message," said parent Ajia Tynes, "Because I need it, I can’t make it to the store, and I don’t really have the funds right now to get her formula."

Slayton said she will keep delivering the formula to parents as long as they keep requesting it. She said she gets messages daily.

“I don’t turn anyone away, regardless of payment, regardless of travel, I don’t turn you away, I’ll do what I can to get you something," Slayton said.
