VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Food Lion is now carrying a barbecue sauce made by a Virginia Beach father and daughter team, with a portion of the proceeds going to an autism charity.

A 26-year-old Virginia Beach resident, Mya Fiedorczyk, and her dad, Scott, have brought a box of their family’s secret sauce to Food Lion in Virginia Beach.

“The Nana sauce is sweet and tangy with an Asian flair,” Mya said. “It’s a 100-year-old recipe; it’s my dad’s mom’s recipe.”

“We’d make it every year and put it in mason jars, a once-a-year process.” Scott added.

The recipe was a secret until Mya's Nana gave it to them before she passed away.

“We started working on a barbecue sauce, and it was very good. We thought it’d be a perfect idea for us to create a company, the 'Nana Sauce Company,'” Mya said.

When Food Lion heard about Nana’s sauce, they wanted to carry it. It was a perfect fit, especially since Mya, who is on the autism spectrum, works at the Cape Story neighborhood Food Lion.

“We have our ‘Local Goodness’ program, which helps Food Lion support small businesses, vendors, and farmers within our community,” said Jennifer Carr of Food Lion.

Eight months ago, 50 Hampton Roads Food Lion stores started carrying the family’s sauce. Not only does it taste great, but it's also great for the community.

“Five cents of every dollar goes to Aid Another for Autism. It’s a local charity that provides services to the neurodivergent community,” Scott said.

Look for it in the 'Local Goodness' section of your local Food Lion.

Scott, Mya, Nana, and Food Lion are working together to bring finger-licking goodness to you and your family, and they are positively Hampton Roads.
