CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - A fan of Autumn and the season’s vibrant colors? The Virginia Department of Forestry has a tour just for you.
“Virginia’s abundant hardwood forests provide weeks of beautiful foliage viewing this time of year,” said State Forester Rob Farrell.
Using information they’ve collected, the VDOF has provided a tour map on when and where you can see the best colors all across the Commonwealth. The map consists of multiple routes covering northern, western, and central Virginia.
“The local roads that make up the fall foliage tour were suggested by long-time Forestry staff for consistent, beautiful autumn scenery year after year,” said Farrell.
VDOF says that the state’s fall color change begins at the highest elevations of Southwest Virginia and the Alleghenies in late September and proceeds downslope and eastward through October.
