NORFOLK, Va. — The Slover library is celebrating Black History & Culture with a festival called, "The Essence of Heart & Soul."
The event was full of entertainment and education hosted by Black-Owned businesses and organizations.

Upstairs there were historic artifacts on display.
Many rooms offered story time reading for children and workshops such as basket weaving or Black History lectures.
In the lower levels, visual art galleries from local photographers and artists.
"I'm from Norfolk. I grew up in the like burgundy area and so. It's very important to build something for yourself, that you can call your own and also share with your community. It really means a lot to me to share this with my family and my friends. To have them just come out and have something that they're a part of," said Nakira Seymour, Owner of Everscents Candle Co/Festival Vendor.
Staff say the event was an opportunity to highlight the contributions of Black Culture to the Norfolk community. To learn what upcoming events are happening at Slover Library visit sloverlibrary.com.
