An Underground River: African American History Along the ERT
In honor of Black History Month, the Norfolk Tour Company is providing an opportunity to explore African American history along the Elizabeth River. This Saturday, Feb.11, there will be a free walking tour with discussions on the figures and pivotal moments in history that happened in our back yard. No registration is needed.
As we approach Valentine’s Day, the Pearl Bailey Library in Newport News is helping you get a head start on those valentine's cards. From Jan. 30 through Feb. 10, kids of all ages are invited to make handmade valentines cards. They will then go to our local veterans.
Norfolk Admirals vs. Reading Royals
The Admirals are expected back on the ice at the Norfolk Scope Arena this week. They once again face off against the Reading Royals Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets start at $15.
Coastal Virginia Magazine Winefest
This one is for the 21 and up crowd -- the Coastal Virginia Magazine Wine Festival returns to the beach this weekend. It's happening at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday. A ticket to attend is $45 at the door, a ticket to taste the wine will be $55.
How about staying in and ordering a pizza? Thursday, Feb. 8 is National Pizza Day, and there will be several deals up for grabs. Places like Bravo!, 7-Eleven, Bar Louie, Jet's Pizza and more are offering deals on Thursday as a part of the celebration.
STEAM Studio: Black Scientists & Artist Series
You can head to the Children's Museum of Virginia this Saturday and Sunday for their team STEAM Studio event. During Black History Month, an interactive exhibit helps kids discover the contributions made by black scientists and artist. Admission to the museum starts at $10.
The Super Bowl is this weekend, and if football isn't your thing, how about the Puppy Bowl? Two local pups will be playing in the big game, so the VBSPCA is hosting a tailgate for the occasion! It's happening Sunday at the Smartmouth Pilot House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Sensory Sundays at the Children’s Museum of Virginia
This weekend, the Children's Museum is hosting its special Sensory Sunday event. The museum will have fewer guests and lower lights and sound to accommodate children with special needs or those needing a calmer atmosphere. It runs from 9 a.m. until noon.
Second Saturday: Unsung Heroes of American Popular Music
It's the second Saturday of the month, so the Children's Museum is hosting a special event called the "Unsung Heroes of American Pop Music." From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., there will be an interactive program celebrating African American musicians who helped make modern music what it is. Tickets cost $10 for kids.
