HAMPTON ROADS, Va. — The Virginia War Memorial announced the winners of this year's Marocchi Memorial Scholarships, and two students in Hampton Roads are among the recipients.

Jenny Calderon, a graduating senior at York High School in York County, and Edward Barrett McFall, a graduating senior at Warwick High School in Newport News, are part of the 2023 Marocchi Memorial Scholarship recipients.

The scholarship is named after the late Rear Admiral John Marocchi, who served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War during his career in the Navy. For his service, he received a Purple Heart.

The scholarships provide college funds to students in Virginia who plan on enrolling in their school’s ROTC program and pursuing service in the armed forces.

This year's scholarship recipients were recognized at the annual Commonwealth's Memorial Day Ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial on Memorial Day. Governor Youngkin was in attendance and congratulated the students.

Calderon and McFall will each receive $2,500 in scholarship funds. This fall, Calderon is attending the University of Virginia and enrolling in the U.S. Air Force ROTC program, and McFall is attending Virginia Tech and enrolling in the U.S. Navy ROTC program.
