Man charged with reckless driving after fatal Surry Co. crash

SURRY Co., Va. – A Kilmarnock man has been charged with reckless driving after a crash at Colonial Trail East at Bacon’s Castle Trail left one person dead Tuesday afternoon.

Virginia State Police say the crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Route 10 (Colonial Trail), west of Route 617 (Bacon’s Castle Trail).

Authorities say a 2008 Kenworth tractor-trailer was traveling in the eastbound lanes of Route 10 when the driver crossed into the westbound lanes and hit the driver’s side of a 2014 Hyundai Genesis.

The 40-year-old man who was driving the Hyundai died upon impact. He has been identified as George Linwood Fauntleroy Jr. of Surry County, and his family has been notified of his death.

State Police say the driver of the tractor-trailer, 33-year-old Isaiah Nehemiah Hicks of Kilmarnock, Virginia, was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain proper control of vehicle.

The Virginia State Police Chesapeake Division Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.
