State Police respond to deadly Yorktown crash

YORKTOWN, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that has resulted in a person dying.

According to State Police, the crash occurred this morning at 9:04 a.m., on Route 17, south of Goosley Road. An 88-year-old New Kent man, identified as James Malcolm Harris Jr., was attempting to exit Colonial National Parkway south when he failed to yield right-of-way to northbound Route 17 traffic and was t-boned by another vehicle.

Harris died on impact. The driver of the other vehicle, Gloucester woman Jesse Rae Volkers, was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No charges are to be placed at this time.
