PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Portsmouth man was acquitted of murder after a 2019 homicide in Suffolk.

Laquinton Darale Blackwell was 31 at the time of the shooting, which left 39-year-old Antoine Deandre Johnson dead. He was initially charged with second-degree murder and using or displaying a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Blackwell was acquitted of both charges, and in addition five charges of malicious shooting in an occupied building were nolle prossed.

Had he been convicted on all eight counts, he would have faced up to 98 years in prison, according to the 2021 Virginia Crime Codes.
