State Police investigating after person killed in Isle of Wight Co. crash

ISLE OF WIGHT CO., Va. – An Isle of Wight vehicle crash has Virginia State Police investigating.

According to officials, the crash happened around 6 a.m., on Route 10 at Berry Hill Road.

State Police said the two vehicle crash resulted in one driver suffering major injuries, and the other driver being fatally wounded.

J. C. Joyner was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when he failed to stop at the stop sign, entered into the intersection of Route 10/Route 666 and was struck by a 1999 Jeep Laredo at the driver side door. The impact of the crash fatally wounded Joyner, according to police.

Raymond Berenyi, of Smithfield was the driver of the Jeep and he suffered major injuries.

Joyner was wearing his seatbelt at the time of impact.

State Police are still investigating.
