VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Katherine Nixon, a Virginia Beach woman, worked as an engineer with the Virginia Beach Public Utilities Department.

Nixon had been with the department for 10 years.

Family tells the Bakersfield CBS affiliate that Nixon grew up in Bakersfield California, and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1994. She leaves behind three children, all under the age of 12.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family and the couple's three little girls.

Funeral Mass details

A June 6, 11 a.m. funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
