Two family pets killed in Chesapeake house fire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Firefighters in Chesapeake responded to a house fire around 8:14 a.m. Monday.

According to officials, firefighters responded to the 4000 block of Charlton Court. Once firefighters arrived, they found an active fire in the attic.

Officials say there is significant damage to the home. One child and four adults have been displaced due to the fire.

Residents were home at the time but were able to escape safely after noticing smoke. However, two of their dogs did not survive. The residents are staying with family for the time being.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
