COASTAL VIRGINIA/NORTHEASTERN N.C. - Thousands of customers are without power across coastal Virginia, northeastern N.C., according to Dominion Energy.

In total at the height of power outages, there were about 90,000 customers who lost power over the last 24 hours. That number is now down to about 65,000 customers.

Many areas are still waiting for the power to be turned back on while others have had it restored.

Some of the highest areas in our region still waiting for restoration are Newport News, Virginia Beach, Gloucester, Middlesex and Northampton, North Carolina.

Most outages were due to high winds, downed wires, broken poles and trees on limbs/poles. The areas most affected overall were Williamsburg, Surry and the peninsula.

Dominion Energy crews are doing damage assessments now so there is no estimated time power will be back yet.
