Suffolk fire crews respond to house fire

SUFFOLK, Va. – Fire crews responded to a house fire in the 600 block of Mulberry Street in Suffolk Wednesday morning.

Dispatch received the call at 5:51 a.m., and the first unit arrived on-scene at 5:54 a.m. Arriving crews found heavy fire showing from the exterior utility room of the one-story residence, with fire extending into the attic area.

A release from the city said the residence is used for storage of the East End Baptist Church Food Bank. There was moderate smoke damage at the rear of the residence, but the area where food donations are stored was not affected.

No injuries were reported, and the fire was called under control at 6:23 a.m.
