CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Colonial Downs Group is no longer planning to locate a Rosie’s Gaming Emporium at 220 Rainbow Lane in Chesapeake.

“After extensive review, Colonial Downs Group has determined this is not the optimum location for a Rosie’s Gaming Emporium along with the jobs and tax revenues it would bring to Chesapeake,” Colonial Downs Group Chief Operating Officer Aaron Gomes said in a statement. “We are currently evaluating alternative sites and are confident we will find a location that meets our needs and those of the community.”

The company has already broken ground on Rosie’s locations in Hampton, New Kent, Richmond and Vinton.

According to the company, the property was expected to include 700 historic horse face betting machines that resemble traditional slot machines, satellite horse race wagering, plus a bar and restaurant.

Colonial Downs Group said that its target date for opening a Chesapeake Rosie’s remains sometime in 2019.
