Police identify body found floating in water near Norfolk marina

NORFOLK, Va. – A man’s body that was found floating in the water near a marina in Norfolk Monday has been identified.

Officials received the call around 12:35 p.m.  The body was said to be found near the Vinings Landing Marina in the 8100 block of Shore Drive.

Virginia Marine Police are handling the investigation as an accidental drowning.

The body has been identified as 54-year-old Edward Blais of Norfolk. He was a missing kayaker that reportedly went out on his kayak on Sunday.

According to Virginia Marine Police, they were able to recover the body off a buoy near Little Creek.

Blais was wearing a life jacket but had no ID when officials recovered the body. The body has been sent to a medical examiner’s office to determine cause of death.
