12 adults, 20 children displaced after Hampton apartment fire

HAMPTON, Va. - Firefighters responded to an apartment fire that has left 12 adults and 20 children displaced in Hampton on Monday in the 2100 block of North Roger Peed Drive.

Officials said that there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the center of the apartment complex when crews arrived.

The complex is an eight unit two story structure. All occupants were reported to be out of the unit when crews arrived.

Multiple units responded with an interior attack but then switched to an exterior attack when the fire started to get worse. A second alarm was called due to the progressing fire and wind gusts over 20 mph. The fire was contained and completely out at 10:20 a.m.

The Red Cross, in conjunction with the apartment complex, are assisting 12 adults, 20 children, and several animals that have been displaced.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Hampton Fire Marshal’s Office. there are no injuries that have been reported.
