VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Beach will now be getting rid of their fees on dog parks and skate park facilities starting April 1.
With a budget proposal going before City Council in May and with special permission from the City Manager, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is doing away with fees for the use of its three dog parks and three skate park facilities.
Between February 1 and March 31, new users will be charged a nominal one-time prorated fee. Existing customers whose passes expire before March 31 will have their pass extended with no additional charge as a courtesy.
Parks & Recreation Director Michael Kirschman said this about the new changes:
One of the department’s goals is to increase public access to parks and programs for our residents. Improved customer service and increased efficiencies are other important reasons for the change. There will be less of a burden on the users to complete a cumbersome process and drive to off-site locations to complete transactions. At the end of the day, we just want people to take advantage of our city’s incredible outdoor recreation amenities and make it as easy as possible for them to do that. And with more dog parks planned in the near future, access should continue to improve and be easier than ever before.
