Norfolk Police investigating social media threat towards Norview High School

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Police are investigating a social media threat to a Norfolk high school.

The post is regarding an alleged threat to Norview High School that will supposedly happen on Thursday.

Norview will be expecting a higher level of police presence due to the threat.

The principal of Norview High School made a call to parents Wednesday evening in order to alert them of the situation.

Norfolk Public Schools released the following statement:

This afternoon, school administrators at Norview High were made aware of threat circulating on social media.  Police have been notified and as a precaution, the area surrounding the school will have an increased police presence tomorrow.

The principal made a call to parents alerting them of the situation this evening.  NPS security and NPD will continue to investigate the origin of the post and monitoring the situation.  Again, increased security and police presence will be in effect tomorrow.

Police will continue investigating the origin of the tweet and monitoring the situation.
