PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A woman in Portsmouth was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Willet Drive and West Road behind Maryview Hospital.
According to officials, the accident happened around 7 a.m. and the victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Lt. Bryan Hall with the Portsmouth Police Department said the Strategic Traffic Unit is still investigating the cars. The driver stayed on scene but it is unclear whether or not charges will be filed.
Neighbors in the area say the area where people cross back and forth from a parking area to the hospital is not well lit. They are hoping more signs or a lighted crosswalk could help draw attention to the area, especially for the high volume of drivers passing through.
Bon Secours Health System provided the following statement about the crash:

Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident and transported the pedestrian to the trauma center at Sentara Norfolk General.
We continue to keep those involved in our hearts and prayers.
