SUFFOLK & CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Suffolk and Chesapeake held a joint ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Nansemond Parkway-Portsmouth Boulevard construction and roadway improvements.

The event took place in the parking lot of the Union Baptist Missionary Church, located on Nansemond Parkway, at 10 a.m. Thursday. Guest speakers included Suffolk Mayor Linda T. Johnson and Chesapeake Mayor Rick W. West.

“The project widened Portsmouth Blvd in Chesapeake and Nansemond Pkwy in Suffolk from two to four lanes and provided turn lanes, signalization, street lighting and a multi-use path,” the City of Chesapeake said in a tweet celebrating the road’s reopening. “It was completed on time and under budget!”
