NORFOLK, Va. – A robbery turned violent Tuesday night, and police are now investigating a shooting.

Police said an armed robbery happened near a bus stop in the 2900 block of Lafayette Boulevard around 8:15 p.m. That is right down the street from the traffic circle.

A 57-year-old man told police that while he was waiting for the bus, someone armed with a gun walked up behind him and demanded money.

During the robbery, the man was shot, police said. Now people who ride the bus regularly in Norfolk are speaking out.

One rider told News 3 he is constantly on his guard when he is alone.

"I'm always looking behind me because [the woods] are kind of dense back there and I [can't see] what's going on. But I always look behind me first and then I look around me," bus rider Nateniel Brown, Sr. said.

The victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and is expected to be okay.

Police said their investigation showed there were three suspects who were wearing all black clothing who are involved in this incident.
