Suspect wanted after critically injuring man in Hampton shooting

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton Police Division is looking for the suspect in connection with a shooting in the 100 block of Golden Gate Drive that left a man critically injured Friday night.

The call came in at 7:02 p.m. Officers found the victim in the 2000 block of Nickerson Boulevard suffering from gunshot wounds.

The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue took the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was in the 100 block of Golden Gate Drive when he got into a verbal altercation with the suspect. During the altercation, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired toward the victim, hitting him one time.

Police say the victim fled to the 2000 block of Nickerson Boulevard to get help for his injury.

Dontaye Lamont McDaniel, a 28-year-old Hampton man, has been charged with one count of Malicious Wounding, one count of Shooting in Public Causing Injury, one count of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
