Residents of James City Co. long-term care facility displaced after early morning fire

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. – Residents have been displaced after a fire destroyed a long-term care facility in the 2000 block of Jolly Pond Road in James City County early Wednesday morning.

The call came in at 5:13 a.m. The first units arrived at 5:29 a.m. to find fire coming from the second floor of a facility operated by the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Asissi, which provided long-term care services.

The fire was called under control at 8:40 a.m. Authorities say the fire destroyed the facility.

Residents were relocated to other facilities in the area. One resident reported a minor injury and was evaluated at Riverside Doctors Hospital.

The James City County Fire Department, James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department, West Point Fire Department, New Kent Fire Department and Navy Mid-Atlantic Region Fire Department responded to the fire.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which is still undetermined at this time.
