12-year-old killed in fatal Norfolk vehicle-pedestrian crash

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Police Department responded to a fatal auto-pedestrian crash in the 2700 block of E. Princess Anne Road Friday that left a 12-year-old boy dead.

The call came in at 4:52 p.m. Traffic was blocked between Majestic Avenue and Norchester Avenue while police investigated.

According to the NPD, the 12-year-old was the pedestrian in this crash.

Residents in the area said they heard the child was on his bike, leaving the library when he was hit. He was taken to the ER, but died as a result of being struck.

Officers said the driver who hit the child stayed on the scene. They told News 3 they have not yet filed charges, but the investigation is not over.

On Friday evening, Norfolk Public Schools officials learned of the traffic accident that ultimately resulted in the death of a student.  Our thoughts are with the family and all those who have been impacted by the tragic passing of this young person.  Grief supports are in place and available to anyone who may need assistance as they work to process this news.  We hope that this very unfortunate incident will reminded us all to appreciate our loved ones and cherish the memories of those who have departed far too soon.
