Police: Pregnant woman shot in Chesapeake, serious but stable condition

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Police in Chesapeake are investigating after a 23-year-old pregnant woman was shot in the city around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

According to officials, the shooting happened in the 600 block of Montauk Lane at the Hideaway at Greenbrier apartment complex and the victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Chesapeake Police have told News 3 the victim, as of 11 a.m., is in serious but stable condition. The status of the victim's pregnancy is unknown, however.

A suspect in the shooting has been described as a white male who was wearing a red hoodie. Police say he fled the scene before officers arrived.

News 3 spoke to a witness named Theus Wilson who heard gunfire and called 911. Wilson said he saw the woman laying on the ground with a single gunshot wound in her side.  She was taken to the hospital and nobody in the area knows her condition at this time.

The incident is currently under investigation. More information will be released when it becomes available, police said.
