The break was reported at approximately 9:15 a.m. and is impacting residences from White Marsh Road from Shingle Creek south including Davis Boulevard and the communities of Stratford Terrace, Cypress Farms and Parker Riddick Apartments.

Officials said the water main was damaged by Public Works crews when clearing debris from Shingle Creek to allow for proper storm drainage as a result of Hurricane Florence.

The Suffolk Department of Public Utilities says water service to the affected areas will be temporarily restored at 6:30 p.m. Friday as valves are currently being flushed.

Officials say the impact throughout the day was minimal as water was available periodically while temporary repairs were made. Water is safe to drink.

Another full shutdown will be necessary in order for crews to make permanent repairs; a section of pipe needs to be replaced beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. Repairs are estimated to take approximately 8 hours to complete.

The emergency water station at the East Suffolk Recreation Center closed at 6 p.m. Another station will be in place for affected residents beginning 8 a.m Saturday. This station will be located at the East Suffolk Recreation Center at 138 S. 6th Street.

The American Red Cross will also provide bottled water. Citizens are asked to bring their own sanitized containers in order to receive water.

The East Suffolk Recreation Center's restroom facilities will also be open and available for use during water service interruption.
