Officer taken to hospital after suspect crashes into police vehicle

NORFOLK, Va. – An officer with the Norfolk Police Department was injured by a car while responding to a call Friday morning.

Around 2:15 a.m. officers responded to Bayview Terrace Apartments located at 8500 Tidewater Drive for a domestic situation.

Police said while officers were on scene the suspect drove back to the location at a high rate of speed. The suspect then drove in the direction of a marked police vehicle with an officer inside.

The suspect struck the police car causing significant damage to both cars, according to police.

Both the officer and the suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Police charged 21-year-old Thyshajuan Rondo-Parker of Ohio with malicious injury and destruction of property.

On November 15, 2019, Rondo-Parker was sentenced to three years and six months of active time to serve.
