PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Officers are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 3500 block of Floyd Street.

A 911 call came in at 1:49 a.m. in reference to the incident.

The adult male victim was shot in the torso, according to police.

The victim was later identified as 46-year-old Tommie Lamont Reynolds of Portsmouth. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by medics.

In the hours after the shooting, officers were in the area to show their support and offer counseling to the victim's family members and neighbors. With added patrols, giving out stuffed animals to children in the neighborhood and having a chaplain on scene, the Portsmouth Police Department made their rounds, going door-to-door during a R.E.S.E.T. Walk.

The department said the R.E.S.E.T. Walks, which stand for Rapid Engagement of Support in the Event of Trauma, were established in 2016 to help families and community members with the healing process after a traumatic experience.

“It’s good to see that they care and that they’re around if we need them for different services. It does show a lot," said neighbor Jesse Bent.

Reynolds' death is being investigated as a homicide.

No arrests have been made in this case. The investigation is ongoing.
