Vehicle involved in crash with Norfolk light rail train

NORFOLK, Va. – An vehicle was involved in a crash with a light rail train in Downtown Norfolk Friday afternoon.

Dispatchers received a call at 2:14 p.m. for the crash.

A spokesperson with Hampton Roads Transit said the train and a car were both traveling westbound at Union and Main Streets when the driver of the car tried to make a left turn, hitting the train.

Eight people were on board the light rail at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported.

All passengers were taken to a bus bridge and continued on their route. The train was taken out of service and replaced with another train.

After stoppages due to an “emergency blockage,” all routes are now back in service.

Police are investigating the crash.
