White substance in Suffolk UPS Store package that prompted emergency response was a dietary supplement

SUFFOLK, Va. – Police in Suffolk investigated a white powdery substance that was leaking from a package at a UPS store in the city, but found there to be no threat.

Officials investigated the package at the store in the 1000 block of Centerbrooke Lane.

Police were contacted around 12 p.m. about the substance they found to be non-hazardous and turned out to be a dietary supplement.

As a precaution, a State Hazmat representative was called to the location to confirm the nature of the substance.

No one exposed to the substance showed any signs of ill effects.

The store was evacuated while the investigation was ongoing, but has now been cleared.
