NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Newport News Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened in the 100 block of Motoka Drive.

A call about the incident was place around 4:30 p.m., Tuesday.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the victim, 23-year-old Hansel Alonso, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he later died.

Around the same time, there was a report of a stabbing victim that showed up at another hospital. This victim was identified as a 20-year-old black man. He has been treated and released from the hospital.

Police said no charges have been filed pending further investigation and consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Police said the shooting and stabbing appear to be related since the victims know each other from living in separate dwellings in the same area.
