CHESAPEAKE, Va. - The community is taking action for eight local young men who need a nurturing home and restful place to sleep.

They're raising money for the Elder's House, a residential facility that costs nearly $1 million to build at 860 Bells Mill Road.

The home is a project worked on by Bishop Kim Brown and his wife at K.W Brown International Ministries.

"We've always had someone else child in our home that we were helping to raise," Brown said. "So about five years ago we felt inspired that [if] you're doing one child at a time, what if you can build something that would enable you to touch many more children at the same time?"

The young men are between 12 and 18 years old who come from families who aren't able to take care of them. They're currently in a non-conducive environment, which makes it difficult for the kids to have a productive life.

"'They do not have to be members of our church, they do not have to have my faith perspectives; we're just trying to save young men," added Brown.

There's two bedrooms and a bathroom on each side of the house with a kitchen area, living room, study room and patio.

The home will be staffed and state licensed with two house parents to give the young men stability.

"I think it's important that young people learn how to make up their bed, clean up their room and  the typical things that come with being a child or adolescent," mentioned Brown.

It's expected to be state licensed and fully operational by this fall.

There are even plans to build a second home for young women in the future.
