Chesapeake firefighters battle three separate fires throughout the city

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The Chesapeake Fire Department had a busy Wednesday night as crews battled three separate fires in the city.

The first incident happened in the in the 4100 block of Hamilton Street. Shortly after 4:40 p.m., firefighters arrived at the scene to find flames visible from the second floor of a two-story apartment building.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent significant damage to adjacent apartments. The fire was brought under control at 4:56 p.m. Six people were displaced as a result of this incident, which is believed to have been caused by a grill that was being used on a balcony.

The second call came in for a house fire in the 1700 block of Dock Landing Road shortly before 9 p.m. Crews arrived at the scene to find heavy fire coming from the back of the one-story, single-family home.

The fire was brought under control at 9:15 p.m. The residents of the home and their dog escaped unharmed.

Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of this fire.

Firefighters are now working a third fire in the 900 block of Annette Street. Crews arrived at the scene at 10:19 p.m.
