NORFOLK, Va. – The guided-missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) left Naval Station Norfolk on Thursday for a scheduled deployment.

The ship is heading to the Navy’s 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.

Most recently, the ship participated in COMPUTEX (Computer Training Unit Exercise) alongside several ships and air squadrons, including the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group.

The ship is deployed with two MH-60R helicopters from Helicopter Strike Maritime Four Eight Detachment Five (HSM 48.5), the “Dastardly Barbarians.”

“With the dynamic geopolitical landscape in 5th and 6th Fleets, the wardroom and crew are excited to do our part to maintain maritime security and support our allies,” said Lt. Dave Nicolas Churchill’s operations officer.
