JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. - One person has been killed and another was trapped inside a vehicle after a tree fell on a truck Friday afternoon, according to police.

Police say the call came in just before 1 p.m.

A 2006 Ford truck belonging to Bones Tile was pulling a trailer on Newman Road, when strong winds caused a large oak tree to land on top of the truck, police said. The tree also knocked power lines down.

The driver of the vehicle, who is the owner of the company, was trapped inside the truck for more than two hours while James City County and York County Fire Departments worked to safely extricate him. He was taken to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries.

The passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead of the scene. He was later identified as 44-year-old Shawn Gregory Walker of Poquoson.

Authorities said Friday night that Newman Road will be closed for a few more hours while Dominion Energy and VDOT work to repair power lines and clear the roadway.
