Virginia high schooler breaks Allen Iverson’s single season scoring record

GATE CITY, Va. – A future Georgetown University basketball player broke Allen Iverson’s single season scoring record last Wednesday.

Mac McClung broke the record during his 41 point playoff game for Gate City High School.

The senior has been some what of a viral sensation for his YouTube videos that show him making big time dunks and spectacular highlight worthy plays.

Iverson had held the record since he set it in his junior season at Bethel High School in 1993. He scored 948 points, breaking Moses Malone’s 1974 Virginia High School League record of 896 points.

Iverson, The 14 season NBA player, would go on to hold the Virginia High School League record for nearly 25 years.

McClung, as of his game on February 21, had scored 958 points this season.

After playing two years at Georgetown, Iverson was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1996.
