70-year-old woman dies in fatal Virginia Beach crash with cement truck

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Beach Police Department has identified the 70-year-old woman that died in a fatal crash in the 100 block of Oceana Boulevard Thursday.

Deedrie Naomi Lewis of Virginia Beach died at the scene after her 2003 Cadillac Seville hit a cement truck.

At approximately 10:48 a.m., Lewis was traveling northbound on Oceana Boulevard in her Cadillac before the observation pull off area. A 2007 Mack cement truck was on a private access road off Oceana Boulevard.

The cement truck and proceeded to enter the intersection to turn left onto southbound Oceana Boulevard when the Cadillac hit the driver’s side of the truck.

An off-duty Virginia Beach Police Officer who was in traffic behind Lewis’ Cadillac heard the crash and ran to the Cadillac. The officer saw that Lewis had stopped breathing and immediately began lifesaving efforts until Emergency Medical Services arrived. Those lifesaving efforts ended up being unsuccessful.

The driver of the cement truck was issued a Uniform Summons for Failure to Yield Right Of Way.
